About The Brand
J Dunet Atelier is more than a brand—it’s my personal sanctuary of art, culture, and creative expression.
As an active duty soldier in the U.S. Army, I know firsthand what it’s like to feel disconnected from my culture and feminine identity. The demands of selfless service leave little time for the rituals of beauty and self-expression. Most days, I wear my natural Afro in a basic protective style—my appearance often defaulting to what feels agendered, practical, and unseen.
But beneath the uniform is a woman who craves color, charm, softness, and the freedom to adorn herself. And when I’m on leave, I know exactly what I reach for—designer pieces, playful accessories, and the whimsical exhibit of feminine beauty.
Through travel, hardship, and isolation in remote areas without access to specialized services, I’ve learned to care for myself in innovative ways. I discovered the most versatile bonnet I’ve ever used—one that protected my hair through everything. I taught myself how to do my own acrylic nails when there was no one else around. And I remembered the passions that have always been within me: braiding hair since age 14, creating political art at 18, and now, channeling those lived experiences into something greater.
J Dunet Atelier—pronounced Jay Doo Nay Uhteleyay—is the culmination of 24 years of creativity, culture, craftsmanship, and couture preferences. It’s a space for anyone who wants to feel adorned, seen, and inspired. A place where curated trinkets, wearable art, and feminine essentials meet bold storytelling and self-celebration.
